Proats (Protein Oats) are another fantastic way to get some extra protein in your diet, especially if you’re not really keen on eggs or meat at breakfast. It will also keep you feeling fuller during the morning.
I make mine by adding 1/2 scoop of flavoured whey protein powder to 50g oats. You can add more but I find it too sweet, especially if its vanilla or caramel. Then I add almond milk to counteract the sweetness and cook for around 3 minutes, until thick and combined.
I have to confess that I am a microwave porridge maker. I know it’s not the ‘proper’ way to make it and possibly doesn’t give quite as good a consistency, but time (and washing up) is an issue for me most morning so I go for speed! But by all means, cook it on the stove if you prefer – just keep the heat low and stir it a lot!
Then add any toppings you like. I always go for some fresh fruit and something textured like cacao nib, nuts, granola or coconut to add a little crunch. Give it a try…
